Tweed River Art Gallery:
A development of exceptional quality, with a design in an Australian style, using corrugated iron and shaded verandahs appropriate to the region.
The Gallery is beautifully sited to capture magnificent views, and has a very good site plan. The project is more than just a Gallery: it is a community facility, with well-used function rooms and a restaurant. It has a number of sustainable aspects including the use of hoop pines from the property to create design highlights.

Tweed Heads Masterplan:
This Masterplan is notable for the clarity of the process and the involvement and co-ordination of multiple government agencies and stakeholders.
The scheme correctly focuses on the Jack Evans Harbour and the creation of a more vibrant urban centre. These considerations warrant a Merit Award. The Jury is keen to see the early implementation of the first phases.

Fawcett Park Riverfront Redevelopment - Ballina:
Fawcett Park is a very successful endeavour to revitalise the waterfront and re-orient the community to the river. The project creates a dramatically improved structure and pedestrian environment by linking the park to River Street, through an arcade which continues via a mid-block signalised pedestrian crossing to an arcade on the north side of River Street.
River Street shops and the community at large will benefit significantly from these improvements.

'An Investigation Into The Desirable Characteristics Of Villages In The Northern Rivers Region' - Case Study of Bangalow and Junction Hill:
This is a very interesting piece of research with an innovative approach to benchmarking principles from successful precedent. These considerations justify a Merit Award. The Jury urge that the research be extended, and given more detail. The ultimate value will come when the results are tested in the design of a developing village.

Rainforest Ridge:
A single family residential development which achieved a higher density but due to very clever design retains a spacious feeling and an overall texture which fits with the surrounding neighbourhood. There is a good balance of public streets and private security. The rainforest on the site has been preserved and combined with common use facilities to form a central open space.
Overall an excellent residential development of superior quality, which should be continued in the subsequent phases.
