The Northern Rivers Regional Development Board was established by the NSW State Government to assist in the future growth of the Northern Rivers Region. The Board consists of 12 members drawn from business and community sectors. These members have strong connections with the region's industry, businesses and local government.

The Northern Rivers Regional Development Board has operated for over 15 years in the region and has been instrumental in facilitating the development of a number of new industries including the multi-media industry, nature based tourism, plantation forests, regional cuisine and intensive horticulture. The Board develops, manages and implements projects that are consistent with its strategic plan and hosts a number of projects at any given time.

Planning Institute of AustraliaPlanning Institute of Australia , Northern NSW Branch . The Northern NSW Branch of the Planning Institute of Australia was established as a Branch of the NSW Division of the Institute in August 1997. The area of the Branch extends from the Queensland border south to The Great Lakes area and west to the Northern Central Plains. The Branch has members in private and public practice and seeks to facilitate the exchange of information, enhancing awareness and further knowledge on issues relevant to land use planning in the Northern NSW area.
